Parliamentary Speeches

As your voice in Victoria’s Legislative Assembly, I give speeches on a range of issues that matter to residents in the Glen Waverley District.

If there is an issue that matters to you or your community group, an achievement you would like to celebrate or a milestone you’d like to mark – just get in touch, and I might even be able to give you a ‘shout out’.

So, what different types of parliamentary speeches are there?

  • Members’ Statements allow MPs to speak on any issue of their choosing.
  • Constituency Questions allow MPs to ask Ministers for information about policies in their specific portfolio.
  • Adjournment Debate gives MPs the chance to ask Ministers to undertake an action – this may include, for example, a visit to our community.
  • Second Reading Speeches are longer speeches given during debate of prospective laws, called bills.
  • Motions, including Address-in-Reply, Grievance Debate and Matters of Public Importance, give MPs the opportunity to speak in depth about a specific issue, or on a specific occasion.
